Born as South Melbourne in 1874, they were an original member of the competition in 1897 and one of the more successful clubs early on. But following premiership success in 1933 it would be a long time before that success was repeated, as the game's national evolution began, the Swans relocated permanently to Sydney and became the Sydney Swans in 1982. Under coach Paul Roos and with stars such as Barry Hall, they broke their premiership drought in 2005 and remain one of the best teams in the AFL. |
