"I don't like u Westpac OM NOM NOM!" - May
Best Job And DDR 20th September 2009 12:17:57 AM
I quite possibly have the best job EVER.

I went to work today at 12 noon.

I drank beer, surfed the Internet and played games till 5PM, then went home.

No joke.

On a more exciting note, some people may remember back in '06 I went in a DDR Tournament at Orbit Amusements (my old blog might try force you to choose a style, and constantly show you the same page. If it does this, exit your browser, come back here, and click the link I just posted again. It's an old bug I never bothered to solve). This was WAY back when I was first getting into DDR, I could get a B on MAX300 (one of the harder songs in the game), and as a result, I thought I was amazing.

Anyway, the dudes that organised that tournament are doing it again this year (actually there have probably been a few tournaments between the last one I was in and now). It's being held at Timezone Whitfords, now that Orbit no longer exists. The staff convinced me to play in it, I was a little reluctant though, because even though I am unquestionably good at ITG, I am not so great at DDR (I won't bore you with an explanation of why, considering all ITG and DDR machines here use essentially the same cabinet, but believe me there are some technical differences). I played through some of the qualifier songs today, to see if I had any chance, and I might. But I know for a fact that Dive11 (Cynthia) and CAMSTA4 will be playing. Camsta, as far as I am concerned, will always be the best DDR player in Australia, and I am pretty convinced Cynthia is still better at DDR than me. James (probably Australia's second best) said he might also play if numbers aren't high enough (which I sincerely doubt they will be).

Interestingly, the 2006 tournament was the first time I played DDR with Cynthia (who, at the time, was like GOD to me). It's almost entirely because I got to play with her that I decided I wanted to get really good at dancing games. I don't think she even knows it was me she played with (I looked so different, short (but thick) hair, no beard), or that it was her that inspired me to play to the level I do today. I should probably say thank you to her...

So anyway, I'm going to have a go and see how far I have come since 2006. If anyone wants to support their local (and possibly only) bearded DDR player, come to Timezone Whitfords at 12 noon.

Cass kept telling me that "they" will fix the pads before the competition, but I have no idea who "they" are, and I doubt the pads will be in good shape. But whatever.

Just read through that old blog entry... this part amuses me:

"I'm hoping that now my parents can see how much I like DDR (They watched me at the comp =D ) they will allow me to purchase a nice metal pad. I will use it every day if I get it."

I had no idea at that point just how obsessed I would become with this game. The possibility of OWNING a DDR machine hadn't even occurred to me. I remember at one stage Andrew (Kitis) told me that I would "become bored of DDR". That's a bit of a laugh. Though, to be fair, I do find DDR kinda boring, it's ITG that I really love.

So yeah, tournament tomorrow, the prizes have not been announced, but I don't care about that. I think entry is free too. So if anyone wants to play with WA's best DDR players for free, come along, it'll be awesome.

Got something to say?
